Honorary Fellowship
Colin Hendrie
Raised in the bush of Zimbabwe, Colin's knowledge of, and love for, the outdoors has been a major influence on his life. After 12 years active service as an army officer (rank of major) in Zimbabwe and 3 years as a Special Forces squadron commander, Sultanate of Oman, Colin embarked on a career in senior management roles in South Africa, the USA and Australia. His commercial focus was diverse, including chipboard manufacturing, international car rental, security and human resource development.
Colin founded Outback Initiatives in 1994 and has designed and delivered a wide range of personal and group developmental programs in Australia and overseas. These are essentially experiential learning programs, focusing on leadership, teams, organisational development and adventure/expeditions for a wide range of industries in the private and public sectors, both locally and internationally.
Colin is well known to hundreds of graduates of the Australian Rural Leadership Program and the great majority of short course programs that the Foundation initiated from 2001. His influence on their personal growth and future opportunities in leadership is highly regarded, not only by participants on those programs, but also by facilitators and Foundation staff who have had the privilege of working with him.
