Did you know?
Chris Mirams (C15) was a Finalist in the “Farmer of the Year” in 2008
As Chairman of the EverGraze National Advisory Committee, Chris Mirams sees a real challenge in trying to understand and satisfy the demands and objectives of all the stakeholders, including the land, the owners, management, staff, and the local and wider community. EverGraze is a national Future Farming Industries CRC, MLA and AWI project which aims to create farming systems based on perennial pastures, improving profit and Natural Resource Management at the same time.

(Chris Mirams with Chris Cumming, Holbrook Landcare CEO)
This is a focus that Mirams puts into practise everyday as Manager of Woomargama Station which is just outside Holbrook in
Woomargama Station is run with an aim to achieve world’s best practice in sustainable agriculture to maximise profit, and to reinvest a large part of that profit to further increase the productivity and value of the property in the long term.
It is made up of quite different land classes, ranging from steep areas with lightly fertilised native pastures to heavy flats sown to high performance ryes. Each is managed differently, and by matching requirements of the land and stock, the station achieves high carrying capacity, high pasture utilization, 100% ground cover and good top soil and soil organic matter.
The Station is also run on a Property Plan, devised many years ago by the Soil Conservation Service of NSW, which is the blueprint for all subdivision and soil conservation work.
Chris is also the current Chair of Holbrook Landcare and the Eastern Murray Landcare Network, and was selected by Holbrook Rotary to represent the club and district on a Group Study Exchange in
Chris says the skills he learned through the ARLP has enabled him be far more effective in contributing to the successes of the wonderful community groups he is involved with.
