Telstra Foundation Community Leadership Course a success
Great leadership is collaborative!, says Project Manager of AIME, Sam Perry on completing the recent six month Telstra Foundation Community Leadership Development Program run by the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation.
The three Telstra Executives and five CEOs of not-for-profit organisations who participated, all heartily agreed the program did more than just develop their leadership skills.
It was great to expand my mind and to work across a variety of professional sectors, says Luigi Sorbello Telstra Director, Architecture, formerly NBN Engagement/Network Engineering, while Eric Louw, Director, Telstra Strategy and Business Development saw the essence of the course crystallizing my insights into my future.
The six-session program was run over six months in several cities around Australia. It commenced with a four-day outdoor experiential challenge in Canberra and surrounds that challenged participants’ own self-perception, and created strong group dynamics for the rest of the program.
“The program gave me great tools for reflection and self evaluation that I can continue to use in the future,” says Jodie Bell CEO of the Broome Aboriginal Media Association Aboriginal Corporation.
An intensive two-day seminar with strategic thinking workshops in Sydney followed and the course finished with a leadership session overview and a project presentation in Melbourne. The project challenged participants to make a real difference in their community by addressing the question: In education what is the most critical division that separates those with opportunities and those without?
“The course, with the Education project its core, was an opportunity to make a tangible difference to division in education and technology in communities around Australia, one of the Telstra Foundation’s key strategic objectives, as much as honing the professional skills of the participants ,” says Zoë Routh, Manager of Short Courses
