TRAIL Blazers Curriculum

The program has long-reaching practical effects. Here is an unsolicited testimonial from 2010 participant John Harrison:
"My personal challenge during the course was to grow membership. And we did the reverse goals task. Well the two pieces of paper [from the Masterminding session] are still on my office wall and I think I have created a monster! Thanks guys. Membership has grown from 130 in July 09 to about 330 as of today... you should be careful of what you ask for (ha ha)." - John Harrison, Executive Officer, Professional Fishermen's Association

"Creative Thinking" with Joanna Maxwell
Joanna has overcome a career in corporate law to become the owner of WorkInColour and a creative thinker, trainer, coach and writer. She’s long been fascinated by the power of creativity and its ability to revolutionise lives and businesses.
Joanna regularly presents and gives workshops on creative thinking to corporate clients including the ABC, Cover-More Australia and the NSW Department of Education and Training. Since 2002 she has produced the content of the Australian Financial Review ‘Hear it From the BOSS’ forums in Sydney and Melbourne on creativity, big ideas and leadership. Joanna writes regularly on creative thinking and other issues for publications including AFR BOSS, The Canberra Times and Eureka Street.
Creative thinking is no longer optional for business. AGSM's The Leader magazine wrote recently, 'Innovation - it's not just a word to be bandied about. The economy is forcing us to get creative. Innovation could be just what we need and it could be very good for business.' And it’s not just about the economy – changes in how we work, how we connect with each other and how we interact with our environment mean that creative thinking is a vital ingredient for 21C success.
Joanna will be running the popular "Creative Thinking" workshop with TRAILblazers. www.workincolour.com.au

Social media is becoming one of the indispensable mediums for communicating your message. It has also been instrumental in bringing down governments in the middle east and industry sectors (the live animal export trade is a recent example of campaigning via social media). All too few rural leaders have the skills, knowledge, and impetus to engage with their stakeholders through this medium. In this workshop particpants will explore the implications and opportunities for engaging with this contemporary global platform to better engage with their customers, communities, staff, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Participants will leave with a 'next steps' plan and some crucial skills for engaging effectively, including practical guidelines and risk management strategies.
1. Outdoor challenge-based education component: the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation uses challenge-based education in the outdoors as a key component of its program delivery. TRAILblazers, like the Foundation’s longer Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP) will also have an outdoor challenge-based education component .
2. Associate Fellowship: Unlike other leadership programs, TRAILblazers graduates will have complimentary membership and access to the LEAD (the Foundation's Leadership Engagement And Development) network post-program, and use of the post-nominals, AARLF. The network includes over 500 graduates of the ARLP – successful leaders across all sectors and all levels of rural Australia.
3. Masterminding and post-course learning activity will be offered to encourage accountability and implementation of individual learning plans and cement transfer of learning and change in behaviour.
